The Spanish footwear manufacturer LUCK CYCLING SHOES will soon be commercializing a new range of smart cycling boots.
The engineers of the Electronics and Automation Department from the Footwear Technology Center of La Rioja have developed a new range of cycling footwear with an integrated electronic system. This new cycling boot is capable of monitoring the performance of cyclists through embedded electronics. Sensors integrated in the footwear will collect information on the physical exertion, the power (energy produced by the cyclist, associated with the muscle force applied on the pedal) and cadence (pedaling speed or pedaling per minute) created while pedaling. The data collected by the sensors will be transmitted through a wireless system to a display. With this data, cyclists can analyze their performance and develop targeted trainings.
This high tech shoe also presents other features that improve the cyclist’s wellbeing: a better ventilation system, optimal power transmission during pedaling and anatomic improvements. The usability has also been enhanced making it very easy to clip the shoes in and out. Moreover, the consumer will also be able to participate in the design of this smart sport shoe. Consumers will have the possibility to personalize and adapt the mid sole, the insole, the lining and customize the colors and print.
The company CUSTOM4US, specialized in biomechanics, is collaborating in the development of the smart cyclist boot with the special direction of Jon Iriberri, worldwide renown for his investigations in cycling and part of the Movistar Pro Team.
