A new system to measure the thermal insulation of footwear and its thermoregulatory capacities has been developed by the Mechanics and Automation Department of the Footwear Technology Center of La Rioja.
The aim was developing a system capable of testing the whole shoe and identifying which parts present higher risks of heat accumulation or heat loss. Through this analysis, the thermoregulatory capacity of footwear to insulate against heat or cold can be improved. Shoes can hereby be designed according to the thermal analysis and by using different materials or combinations of materials the thermal comfort of the shoe will be improved.
