ENECO2 is a European project that seeks for synergies amongst cross-border regions. The regions that participated in this project were La Rioja, Navarra, Aragón, Aquitania and Midi-Pyrénée and their respective agencies (see below).
The aim of the project is to strengthen economic and social integration through cooperation. Improving the competitiveness of the economies of the regions through cooperation, promote employment, protect the environment and the cultural heritage, and improve the quality of life through sustainable development were of the key objectives of ENECO2. The Footwear Technology Center of La Rioja has participated in the project guiding several footwear manufacturers in their process of integrating innovative and sustainable production practices. The CTCR functioned as an agent implementing eco-innovative and sustainable processes in the 39 participating companies of the area.
The responsible agencies from the participating regions were the Economic Development Agency for La Rioja, Fundación Centro de Recursos Ambientales de Navarra, Asociación de Empresa de la Merindad de Estella, Foundation Ecology and Development Aragón, Association Pour l'Environnement et la Sécurité en Aquitaine and Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Région de Midi-Pyrénées. The budget for the project was 1,279,335 Euros, of which 898,588 Euros were financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within the "France-Spain-Andorra Cross-border Cooperation Operational Programme 2007-2013)”.
