Consulting and Implementation of UNE EN ISO 14064-1: 2012 to obtain the AENOR CO2 Certificate

The CTCR advises and help the companies in the process of implementation and external audit of the AENOR’s UNE EN ISO 14064-1:2012 in order that the company obtain the verified CO2 Certificate.

The Carbon Footprint is defined as the total amount of GHGs caused directly or indirectly by an organization, product or service. It is, therefore, an inventory of GHGs, which is measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent and takes into account the 6 types of greenhouse gases contemplated in the Kyoto Protocol (CO2, CH4, N2O, PFC, HFC and SF6).

The standards for the production of GHG inventories conforming to ISO 14064-1 are, on the one hand, to know our organization in depth, so as to identify the environmental and economic improvement points (usually a reduction of energy consumption and raw materials is associated with economic saving); on the other hand, transparency to communicate to customers the impact on climate change of our organization, to provide them with the necessary information for the criteria of green purchase and contracting and to demonstrate the environmental commitment of the organization.

The implementation and verification of the ISO 14064-1 offers different benefits to the organisations, both internal and external:

• • Correct implementation ensures consistency, transparency and credibility in GHG quantification, allowing organizations to identify and manage their environmental responsibilities related to GHGs. In addition, as it is an internationally recognized management system, it facilitates its overall interpretation.
• • It also facilitates the development and implementation of GHG management strategies. This allows organizations to know their current situation and identify opportunities for improvement in which gas emissions are concerned.
• • At the external level, verification helps investors and customers make decisions, since verified organizations are in an environmental commitment.

EU Eco label for Footwear

Our consultants will support you during the application process for EU Ecolabel for Footwear and help in the fulfillment of the Decision (EU) 2009/563/EC.

The CTCR will carry out following tasks:
   • • • Research on the necessary information of the different materials that compose the shoe and research on the ecological requirements for the providers that supply the company.
   • • • Tests according to the norm 2009/563/EC on the components of a shoe.
   • • • Reduction of environmental impact during its lifecycle, whilst maintaining and improving its functionality.
   • • • Life Cycle Assessment of the shoe to obtain the eco label.
   • • • Improvement of the brand image through the voluntary compliance of the label and guaranteeing hereby an environmentally friendly and good quality shoe.

Advice, training and support to register with the National Register of carbon footprint

The Department of Quality and Environment will guide you in the process of applying and registering with the National Register of Carbon Footprint according to Spanish Royal Decree 163/2014 of 14 March 2014. The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food Quality and Environment grants the Carbon Footprint Stamp to companies for their voluntarily registry and calculation of the carbon footprint, the reduction and absorption projects, and the carbon dioxide compensation. The three stamps are granted as follows:

         CALCULO (Calculate): for the voluntarily registry, the calculation of the carbon footprint and the development of a reduction plan.
         REDUZCO (Reduce): Reduction of the CO2 emissions after carrying out the different actions of the reduction plan.
         COMPENSO (Compensate): compensation of the carbon footprint through projects in agroforestry for carbon sequestration within Spain.

 

Eco-design

The aim of introducing eco-design is to reduce the environmental impact of the product lifecycle and the carbon footprint, optimize the resources and reduce the costs.

Through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of a product or service its environmental impact can be calculated in any stage of its life. With the results of the LCA different strategies are developed for the redesign of the product or service. Once the final product or service is obtained, green marketing measures are incorporated to promote the product or service

 

Consulting on environmental law

Sustainable development measures favor the competitiveness of companies, but it implies analyzing and following the environmental legislations. The requirements established in environmental laws affect the installations, products, services and all the activities of the business and aim at reducing and minimizing the pollution.

The CTCR offers organizations an analysis of the current legislations and norms at a national and regional level as well as the European directives, decisions and recommendations in relation to the environmental matters of the organization’s activities. The aim of this service is to promote the implementation of environmental legislations amongst footwear manufacturers and implement sustainable development measures. SMEs can obtain at a low cost a review on the current environmental legislations that affect their business and opt on implementing corrective measures related to waste, discharge, soils, package, atmosphere, REACH, etc.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

The CTCR offers organizations the development of the sustainability report. Sustainable development and the reporting of the company’s economic, environmental and social impact shows the value’s of the organization. Transparency on the company’s strategy and its impact on the environment can greatly influence stakeholder. At the CTCR we highly value CSR, having ourselves a sustainability report following the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards. That is why we also encourage others to follow the same steps and offer support for the sustainability reporting.

Measurement and noise control of acoustic emissions

The CTCR offers to assess the compliance of the company’s noise pollution in accordance with the Spanish Law on Noise Pollution 37/2003 and the municipal ordinance on acoustic emissions and vibrations that applies to the company’s location. For that, the CTCR counts with a Sound Level Meter that complies with the necessary requirements. After carrying out the assessment, possible solutions are offered given the case the sound levels surpass the established limits.

Development of environmental documentation, action plan and corrective measures

Within the context of environmental auditing, a set of actions are to be carried out in order to achieve the sustainability standards and improve the weaknesses detected in the assessment. Here for, the main objectives of the action plan are to cover also actions on the environmental, economic and management level. Adequate activities in order to eliminate or reduce as much as possible the negative effects of the activity or service (being it in the design process, the location, or the procedures to reduce pollution, contamination and devices for environmental protection), will be developed.

Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for the reduction of environmental impact

The CTCR counts with the software SimaPro 7.3 to trace the environmental impact of the life of a product, from raw materials up to the management of waste in an objective way.

Thanks to SimaPro, results on the energy and consumption of resources, on emissions to the air and water, on toxicity and risk potential can be obtained. Grades on the impact on the environment of each product, process or service can be calculated.

Once that information is obtained, the product, process or service shall be re-designed through eco-design, or modified. Finally, the LCA or carbon footprint of the product is re-calculated in order to find out the perceptual reduction in impact on the environment.

Waste analysis and control

Water law prohibits the disposal of waste within the public hydraulic domain. Disposal may be carried out only upon receiving an explicit authorization that always implies that waste is sufficiently purified and complies with the waste emission limits established, having no repercussion on the public hydraulic domain.

The CTCR offers within this service to take samples of waste from industrial activities and analyze it, in order to ensure compliance with the legislations and then processes the request for waste authorization. This includes the processing of the administrative record, reposting, processing of the reviews of discharge and writing the technical report if necessary.

Dangerous goods safety adviser report

Any company that handles dangerous goods (ADER listed) in higher quantities than 20Kg/l of highly dangerous goods, 333Kg/l of moderately dangerous goods or 1000Kg/l of marginally dangerous goods, needs the service of a safety advisor.

The CTCR drafts the annual report on loading, unloading and transportation of dangerous goods, advises on the management of documentation and offers trainings for the workers involved in recycling, trainings on first aid, advises on disciplinary proceedings and codes of good practice, etc.
