The CTCR links Electronics and Automation as two areas of joint development in terms of the possibilities for automation processes and electronic systems through the development of control software. The different fields composing Electronics and Automation allow the development and control of any electronic system or industrial manufacturing process in real time, reducing and eliminating everyday problems and minimizing the final cost of the process or service. Additionally, this department contributes with embedding electronics into footwear, creating smart products.

Embedded electronics with different functionalities

A research team is working in the field of wearables, products and garments that incorporate electronic technologies with multiple functions, interacting with the user and carrying out specific functions. The innovations are centered on the development of smart textiles with integrated electronics, or intelligent footwear with new functionalities.

Automation of industrial processes

The Department of Electronics and Automation counts with the expertise to improve the industrial processes of footwear production through the automation of different process. Efficient manufacturing and the transition towards the industries 4.0 and smart factories are our key objectives. We aim at achieving this by adapting continually to the ever growing needs of the market, integrating Internet of Things and creating systems that communicate with each other. Some of our projects within this field have lead to the development of new processes where the efficacy of production has considerably been increased.

Implementation of RFID systems for traceability in the supply chain

Through the technology of Radio Frequency Identification data is remotely stored on the RIFD tags. This data can then be read and tracked by RFID readers.

This technology serves to identify and read data through radio frequency and can be of great use for logistics purposes or traceability during the supply chain, amongst many others.
